Abstract
In order to obtain reference materials for the formulation of future medical fee schedule, the medical care expenses records of 5,597 workmen¢¥s compensation cases who were treated at 100 private clinics located in three areas of large city during 1 year period of 1975.
The results were as follows:
1. The duration of treatment was 21 days on the average (median 24 days) and, in in-patients who constituted 18.8£¥ of all cases, the average duration of admission was 18 days (median:20 days).
The comparison with 1968 records showed the decrease in admission rate, while the duration of treatment or admission increased slightly.
2. The medical care expenses per capita was 21,764 Won or approximately £¤ 44 on the average (median:16,445 Won or approximately £¤33).
When compared with 1968, the medical care expenses were almost tripled by 1975, the rate of increase in 7 years being equivalent to the annual increase of 17£¥.
3. The daily medical care expenses per capita was 1,011 Won or approximately £¤2 on the average and almost doubled since 1968.
4. In the analysis of medical care expenses according to various medical procedures, medication constituted largest portion of 66.9£¥ of which 50£¥ was brought about by the use of antibiotics.
When compared with 1968, substial increase was noted in the portion of medication, while that of dressing decreased. No signicant change was noted with regard to laboratory examinations, surgical procedures and physical examinations.
5. It was felt that the private physicians were now accustomed to the new experience of medical administration fairly well and also showed some change in medical procedures they use.
6. In view of the very low physical examination fees, it should be reflected in the amendment of any new medical fee schedule.
